Happy-Go-Lucky review
Posted : 8 years, 4 months ago on 4 August 2016 11:06 (A review of Happy-Go-Lucky)Hawkins' character, Poppy, was really difficult to cope with. She was not "bringing the laugh and optimism", she was actually being psychotic with ignoring problems and laughing hysterically, taking nothing seriously and being absolutely a pain to the people around her having real issues. Even her "teacher life" was unrealistic- myself being a teacher, I really wish I never had a colleague like her. A very convincing Marsan, always fantastic in his challenging roles, and a very annoying Poppy (I hope it was the character). The only reason I sat through the movie was because I was told it's good...that "good part" never came. I was literally very pissed off with her and annoyed with how wrong the way she dealt with Scott was. Wouldn't recommend this movie and wouldn't watch it again.

Brave review
Posted : 11 years, 6 months ago on 1 June 2013 08:54 (A review of Brave)Had the laugh of my adult life. You know when you are 30-ish and you blame the new generation cartoons for being brutal, uninteresting and inferior to the ones we had back in 80s?? Well, this is the kind of cartoons the new generation needs. Could have had a more complex plot yet if you enjoy having a good laugh with friends and appreciate the value of the wild Scottish countryside, this is your movie. Really enjoyed it.

Anna Karenina review
Posted : 11 years, 6 months ago on 1 June 2013 08:47 (A review of Anna Karenina)Didn't expect it to be that good. Loved the director's theatrical touch. Scenes moving, feelings in the air. Could have been more Russian than Hollywood yet is worth the effort.

A talented man in an average movie
Posted : 11 years, 11 months ago on 16 January 2013 11:42 (A review of The Other Guys)Ferrell is such a brilliant talented actor and he plays in such average to awful movies...why?? He has an amazing talent to really dress into any ANY character...I understand why he plays in these films, he has to earn a living, but please people of the film industry, use him wisely! No more dude-films!It's just sad.

Brilliant message coming from an average film
Posted : 11 years, 11 months ago on 16 January 2013 01:28 (A review of Year of the Dog)This is a good comedy to watch when nothing else is on. That is the 1st impression. The second impression is that Shannon kind of convinces you to keep watching to see what happens with her issue and although I got a bit sleepy, I actually caught myself trying to keep my eyes open to watch it till the end. Some say this is a manifest in favor of vegans and the love for animals and although I cannot disagree, I cannot agree either. At the end there is no indication that being a vegan and loving animals to death is a good thing nor a bad thing. It shows how lifechanging this devotion may be of course but I was suprised to see that the side of White was kind of neutral I think. If you remove the kind of addiction (love for animals) and you keep the plot, this could be a movie about (I don't know..) the extreme love about anything..which would never drive you that far if you do have a healthy life (all aspects included).
Shannon does not have anything full-filling in her life and finds everyone dissappointing: her over-protective brother (having kids), her insensitive boss (work), her girlfriend who is cheated but carries on staying with him and her own unsuccessful attempts to have a boyfriend(relationships)so I think that this film is about how someone will follow the one thing that makes them happy when nothing else goes well in their life, even if this is not the right thing. From this point of view, this film's message was brilliant. If White actually wanted to pass this message on. Otherwise I'm just mental. Well, I would recommend this movie anyway.

Helen of Troy review
Posted : 11 years, 11 months ago on 15 January 2013 12:10 (A review of Helen of Troy)I'm posting the exact same review I did on The Odyssey (1997) and that is because these two tv-movies are the closest any director/screenwriter has ever been to the authentic ancient script. I dare to say that this is the only Iliad that is so close to the original epos written by Homer. As a Greek person and a Classics' teacher I recommend this film to anyone who is interested in Iliad. There are also sceens taken from other scripts depicting the exact atmosphere that Homer underlined. I just love it when classic works are not ruined in the name of Hollywood. An excellent cast and a respectful attitude towards the ancient script. Watch it!

Norwegian Wood review
Posted : 11 years, 11 months ago on 7 January 2013 03:06 (A review of Norwegian Wood)The picture was fantastic, the faces and the acting were superb. A nice film which talks about loss, love, loneliness, finding ownself, relationships, sacrifice and death. I never read the book and maybe I should have had but what I didn't like in this film was the silent moments which I think served no purpose. I enjoy those moments in films where silent scenes underline feelings, meanings and play an important role in the plot..but in this film there were a lot of silent scenes that had no role to play. I was told the book described the feelings and thoughts during these silent scenes. A nice film but it had the potential to be much better.

Synecdoche, New York (2008) review
Posted : 11 years, 11 months ago on 6 January 2013 01:22 (A review of Synecdoche, New York (2008))I've just watched it and I have very mixed feelings about it. I will try to find out if my understanding of the film is even relevant to the one that Kaufman had but I think this film's review should focus on the one and only reason to watch it which is irrelevant to anyone's taste or level of understanding of the meanings between the lines. Can't say it was bad, not at all, it was a brilliant piece of work..but I can't say a masterpiece either because I don't think it fits any profile to be honest. The briliant thing about it ,I think, is that it makes you think, question, look, wonder, love and hate..it makes you feel so deeply..it is a devastating movie, one of those films not to watch when in an awful mood. It doesn't make you feel one thing but a lot of things actually. And for this reason I think it's worth watching it. So freaking weird..soooo many things to think about. Watch it..but not on a too bad or a too good day.
